Fouling and scaling caused by impurities entrained by cooling water system would bring down condenser performance in thermal power plant. Steam turbine thermal efficiency will go down as the back pressure rises. Condenser tube cleaning system is designed to keep tubes clean and improve heat exchange performance. Conventional chemical cleaning has disadvantages like long shutdown time, harmful chemicals and ongoing operation expense. Taprogge system is an online cleaning device to remove scaling & fouling by sponge balls. It could clean the debris with sponge balls and get them removed from water circuit with backwash filter.
Suitable sponge balls are important for this system. It is required that wet ball diameter is 1~2mm bigger than inner diameter of tubes, and specific gravity of wet ball is close to that of water. Quantity of taprogge balls is normally 7%～13% of the number of tubes. These cleaning balls are introduced into cooling water flow upsteam the heat exchanger via ball injection device. Due to the differential pressure at the inlet and outlet, these elastic balls are pushed through the tubes. Debris is wiped off and get discharged by filter. Balls will be collected and used again. This method could avoid fouling build-up and keep heat exchanger running at high efficiency. Taprogge system is widely used in industries like power generation, chemical, oil & gas, iron & steel, etc.
